Students in Symphonic Band will perform two concerts (Fall Concert and Winter Concert) in the fall semester and three concerts (MPA, Pops Concert, and Spring Concert) in the spring semester.
Honors Proficient Band
Students who wish to be in the Proficient level band and receive honors credit must audition during the first full week of school, by August 31. The audition will include:
The prepared solo and scale sheets will be handed out on the first day of school to students who are interested. The entirety of the solo must be played and all scales (in full range) must be played. Sight reading may be taken from the Scott Rush Habits of a Successful Musician book or a similar text. Theory questions will be based on topics discussed in class (ex: definition of terms, how to build major scales, interpretation of symbols, etc). Percussionists must play the etude either Snare Drum and Mallets or Timpani and Mallets. If you play more than one instrument (i.e. clarinet in marching band but bassoon in concert band) you may play the audition material on your PRIMARY instrument. In order to maintain a more rigorous course load, students receiving honors credit will be required to participate in extra performances than students who are in Intermediate Band. These performances include:
Nursing home performances
Auditioning for All-County Band
Performing in the Small Ensemble Concert
**Students receiving honors credit will also be required to pass-off harmonic minor scales and to complete extra graded assignments throughout the semester.**
